This book is kinda random. Its not a book i would normally have picked to read but its decent otherwise. It is about a girl named Mary. She lives with her mother while her brother works helping to build a boat. He father died about a year ago. There is a man named Gilly who helps on the farm where Mary and her mother live. Mary's father gave Gilly a pair of boots to wear when he works and he is very protective of them. In the story there are people who are "throwing fittings" everyone in the town seems to think they are being posessed by the devil or an evil being. There is a doctor that comes into town to try to help the girls. This book is okay but there is nothing that exciting that has happened.

I think this was a good book, but not very exciting. The main character, Mary, lives with her mother and her brother. In the book, Mary lives in the town of Salem and no one ever talked about witchcraft there until these young girls start acting weird around everyone. All the old people think that it's witchcraft. I was confused in the beginning of the book because I didn't know if these girls all planned the fake witchcraft stuff out or not and i just think the book didn't do a good job with that. But Mary doesn't have much to say in the beginning, all the older people just talk to each other about everything. Besides the fact that I was confused for awhile in the beginning of the book, I thought it was a good book.

This book is kind of good, and kind complicated at the same time. I think its interesting because its like a mystery. The main character, Mary Chase, wants to know why all these girls are throwing fits. Mary lives with her mom. Her dad died about a year ago, and her brother is an apprentice and is learning how to make boats or boat parts. There's this weird guy names Gilly who works for the Chase family and kind of worship her dad. He wears his boots when working on the land, but he tries not to ruin them. He ends up living with Mary and her mom Virgina to make sure they dont get possessed. Then he starts to fall for the mom ...that part was kind of weird. The book gets complicated with all the names of the people, and they say goody before everyones name which adds to the confusion. Over all its okay.

This was a good book over all. One thing that really annoyed me was that there were too many characters. The book pretty much names everyone who lives in the whole state. I couldn't keep track of all of the people. Most people had "Good" in there name too. I think it did a good job of showing how people acted during the time of all the witchcraft, but it made them seem very gullible. Maybe they weren't gullible and that was how they really acted, but that's what I think.

I think this book was not a good book for me. It was complicated and wasn't very good at grabbing my attention. The book stayed at a normal level where nothing exciting happened. The people of salem were freaked out about the women in the town throwing fits and it was thought to be witchcraft. Mary and her family helped people who were in need and they were accused of being witches. I really wouldn't recommend this book.

Overall i thought this was an okay book. I would not recommend it to anyone though. I think it had a really bad ending. Everything was fine for the chase family, but it didn't explain a lot about some of the other characters. I agree with some of the other comments that say there were too many characters. I had a hard time knowing who was who, and i found myself reread a lot of things to fully understand it. One thing i really didn't like was how this book focused a lot on details. One thing that the book did a good job of was give the reader a sense of what the people back then felt. Fear, uncertainty, and confusion.
