Fallen Angels is a book about the Vietnam War. So far I like how Myers describes the battlefield and what actually happened down there. On pg. 203-204, Myers explains how Perry and the rest of the platoon are under fire from the Vietcong. First Johnson got hit, followed by Brew. Perry walked over to Brew and was hit in the leg. He was then hit in the wrist and pulled off the hill. Perry also encountered a VC in a house when the VC came down and started to shoot at Perry. The weapon was empty and the VC swung the gun at Perry. Perry blocked and unloaded his M-16 in the VC's face. He killed him and thought about him in his dreams. It is very graphic and explains the turmoils and hardships of war and seeing your friends and brothers gunned down in the name of freedom and your country. Danny T.
Fallen Angles is a great book about war. Myers does a great job of giving readers a realistic view point of a solider and the things they must do in order to survive and come back to their families. I really like Perry; his emotions are very similar to the emotions of an average person if they were put in his situation. For example, after he killed his fist cong he was extremely emotional and had to be comforted by Peewee, and the next time he went on patrol or an ambush he always thought about the VC he killed. What interested me was the way Perry and his squad bonded after being in the country. When Perry first got to Nam there were many conflicts between the soldiers, for example, the fight between Johnson and Walowick. But after their first fire fight many of the solders came together. When Lieutenant Carroll died it really affected Perry and his squad, and when Brew died Johnson was unable to accept it. Myers really does a great job of writing about the reality of war and the injuries and fatalities which solders go through.
The book fallen angels is a book about young men who are in the vietnam war. these men include the main charates perry and pewee. this book follows their experiences in the war and shows how bad war can. be. it is a very graphic novel that is very realistic in the tellings of this war. it tells how fast things can change from peaceful into a living hell. Fallen Angels is a gut-twisting story about the Vietnam war.It portrayed an acturate depiction of the life of a soldier in Vietnam. It showed how fearful some where while others kept their cool.It showed how soldiers bonded with each other and grew closer after each battle. It also showed how soldiers react to their first kill.Perry, the main character, was very emotional after his first kill.He had nightmares about it and his friend Peewee comforted him.Perry also suffered an injury during one of the patrols and was sent to a hospital. He was lucky to live but unlucky at the same time because his injuries were not bad enough to be sent home.So far its a good novel and I recommend it to all.

Fallen Angels by Walter Myers is a good book that describes how terrible and graphic a war can be through a soldier's point of view. Perry (main character) goes through highs and lows like when he killed someone for the first time. He got so emotional that his friend Peewee needed to talk to him about it. Perry is an interesting person and it shows throughout the entire book and it shows how he and his friends bond together because all they have in Vietnam is eachother. George C.
Fallen angels was a good book that really showed what war was like view the perspective of the soldiers fighting in the war. There were many parts of the book that were unexpected. The most unexpected part of the book for me was when the mother with the two children were brought to the camp and she set mines onto her child and killed a soldier and also her baby. This book was really good at making you want to keep reading. Almost every chapter had a important part in keeping the story alive and made it flow easily. This book was just able to show you real life depictions.
Fallen Angels really picked up in the second half of the novel. Nearly every chapter Perry and his squad went on patrols. On most of these patrols there were battles. The soldiers had to learn to cope with the loss of their friends and deal with the horrible sights they saw. At one part in the book the squad went to protect a village and found that most of its inhabitants were dead or were brutally injured. It the end Perry and Peewee were injured in a firefight to the point where they had to return to the states. This was good news for them but they felt bad about leaving the rest of their squad behind in the boonies. I enjoyed the first half of the book but the second half was packed with action. This is a great book for people that enjoy war stories.
Fallen Angels is a story by Walter Dean Myers which accurately, and unbiasedly showed what the real Vietnam was. I really like how they show Richie Perry throughout the entire novel. He is what the army consists very much of today, a poor, urban youth who really had to other choice. Perry went through so many different emotions, and its very easy to see how one would feel similar, being placed in that circumstance. The army is not what anyone thinks it is, and Perry left the war still unsure about what he experienced. War is not as it seems in most stories, but this one really shows the emotional toll it takes on a person accurately. Perry couldn't afford college, even though he was smart, and this story shows how challenging it is when the money really just isn't there.
After completing Fallen Angles I felt extremely satisfied about what I had read. I think the story accurately depicts the reality of war and the daily struggles American soldiers had to go through during the Vietnam War. Fallen Angles was easily the best war story I have ever read, Myers provided great details which allow readers to picture all the gut wrenching action which takes place throughout the book. Myers did a great job of making Fallen Angles interesting; the characters in the novel were all interesting they all had different personalities which made them easy to relate to. Because we did not have a reading schedule I often fell behind in the reading and had to read many pages at a time. Myers made Fallen Angles a page turner and also an easy read which allowed me to stay interested in the book for long periods of time. Overall, I think Fallen Angles was a great book; it was one of those books I would have read outside of school if it was not an English assignment.
At the end of the book Perry and Peewee are headed home after a long tour in 'Nam. War has changed them by showing them that there are casualties in every war and that it starts to mess with your brain. Walowick and other privates start to see things that aren't there, and shoot to defend themselves. One boy runs up to a soldier to give him a hug and when the soldier hugs back he blows up because the kid was wired with explosives. At the end of the book Perry and Peewee save Monaco from death by seeing three groups of VC troops. They decide to ambush one group when the medivac chopper comes down. The plane sees the muzzle fire and unloads on the M-60 and wipes out the VC army. The plane then picks them up and heads to the hospital. Sg. Dongan loses his legs from an explosion at the end, and Monaco still has to serve in the war. Overall the book accurately and graphically describes the turmoils and consequences of war that last with you for the rest of your life. Dan T.
Sorry Miss Graham but the computer didn't work for me between 8 p.m. and 12p.m. The site wouldn't go through so I couldn't post the comment. You know I always do my homework so I hope that you can see that I'm not making excuses and don't count it as late work. I'd appreciate it.
After completing this story by Walter Dean Myers, I feel as though it was great, but really missed key things. the novel starts off really vague about Richie's life before going to the war, which is very important information. Myers did however do a great job of accurately going through emotions and ideas of soldiers during the most exhilarating of times. Relationships are also shown very importantly in this novel and Myers makes it very clear that he wants to show how war changes them. Although war is the topic of this novel, Myers at times did not really go deep into soldiers and how they have to cope with death. However, when he did try to be descriptive, he did so very well. Overall it was an excellent novel that I would recommend all of my friends and family to read.
Fallen Angel is a fun and honest book. Fallen Angels doesnt try to hide all the harsh parts of war, instead it tries to explain the events as if the author was there. It was a fun book to read. You didnt know what was gonna happen next, it kept you wanting to read more. It shows what war in like in the perspective of the soldiers and not the politicians and news reporters. The book really pulls you in with all the different characters and different personalities of each of them. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good book, and doesnt mind some graphic material.
