This book so far has been very interesting. It was interesting when Tally the main character was trying to escape new pretty town. It gave me a rush just thinking about jumping that high building. I also found all the high-tech things they have very fascinating. They even have hoverboards and when they fell they had bracelets that could catch you before hitting the ground. New pretty town even has things that could trick the people living in it. Such as, metal that keeps the hover boards lighter giving the effect that they are lighter than what they really weigh.

Shay also showed Tally a new way of thinking about being pretty. Something outside of pretty world where it was different and more exciting which taught Tally a new perspective of things.I was also wondering why Shay would let Tally fall off the rolloercoaster. I was thinking that maybe she let her fall so that she could experience it herself.

When considering Charis's comment about Shay allowing Tally to fall of the roller coaster, I was reminded about the iomportance of empowerment in a mentoring relationship. If the lesson is to have any meaning, the teacher must allow teh student to experience the conssequences for herself.

This is actually a really good book. It was really interesting, i like how the book started out with Tally and Perish. Its really interesting how in the pretties they do all the cool stuff like jumping off the roof. I think its really how they can play around with their looks in a software. They have a lot of advanced technology there too.

I like Shay's personality. How she just goes out for what she wants to do, like going out of the city and going to the ruins. I think Shay is a really cool and nice friend to have. Tally is pretty lucky meeting her. The roller coaster ride sound so fun and interesting.

However I was kind of wondering how Shay doesn't want to be pretty?

I think that its not fair for Tally not to get the surgery because of Shay. I mean Tally didn't do anything wrong. I kind of felt bad for Tally because she had to go out and look for "Smoke" all alone.

This book so far is really great. i find it interesting that people are labeled as "Littlies" then "Uglies" and finally "pretties". This book is main character Tally misses her friend so much that she puts a plan together to see him in new pretty town. she ends up being chased by pretties and jumping of a roof! She does all this so she could say hi to her friend Peris who became a pretty before her. After she runs away from the pretties she meets shay.

Tally's town is so advanced she has to were a interface ring so she is identified. To make this all short shay and Tally end up going on hover boards to the ruins and found a rolloercoaster.Tally did free fall of the rolloercoaster but she was fine just angery and Shay.

Chelza,

Perhaps Shay's reluctance to be pretty involves her satisfaction with her life and her belief that we, as humans, are meant to be flawed -- that this is what makes us unique. Perhaps she thinks that becoming "pretty" will involve a loss of some part of who she is; a part she is unwilling to relinquish.

Im like half way done with my book and its getting really interesting. Tally went out to try to find Smoke.
Whats kind of confusing was that they were people following her. The part with fire being thrown was kind of scary. I mean who knows if you'll get hit or not.

Where is smoke locate?

Tally was taken by the people and took her to smoke. When she got there she met David and others. In smoke you have to trade things in order what you want like food.
I thought smoke was free and you could just do anything you want but they are rules like trading things.

Just by reading book i thought smoke is a happy place. But now I'm having second thought, because in the book Tally saw a very anorexic women in Smoke. When I read that part of the book I was kind of disgusted because it said that the woman's elbows and pelvic looked sharp as a needle. (Pg.199)

But overall this is a really interesting and good book.

so far this book has been very interesting. While reading this book, I keep learning more and more about the characters. I learned that Shay doesn't care about becoming a pretty at all, it seems like she wants to be herself and just have fun. On the other hand, Tally is just focusing on becoming a pretty and not thinking about anything else. But I think Shay is trying to make Tally open her eyes and realize that becoming a pretty isn't that important.

I'm reading part 2 at this point. Well I was just wondering if the specials were a different "pretty" but they have all the sharp features. well so far it's gotten more interesting.I found it cool that they had SpagBol but at the same time Tally would have to eat it for about 4 weeks. They are so highly technologically advanced. It was also nice that Peris came back to see Tally but. I also think that he just really wants her "pretty".
What was suprising was when special circumstances already knew that Shay was probably going to leave. i was also suprised when Tally said she would do what the specials wanted her to do.

When Tally said "And everyone is ugly" Shay said "which means no one is ugly" It showed that Shay has some wisdom. The fact that she thinks differently then everyone else in their "utopia" also shows some wisdom.

Natalie G. 6th said...

Part two of Uglies is starting off really great! It must be a hard decision for Tally to choose - her friends promise or becoming a "pretty". The decision was hard, but if I had to choose, I would choose to go see Shay and live with her and her friends.

I wouldnt enjoy being in such a judgemental society. It's unfair and pointless. I really enjoy this book, and read it every chance I get. It's different than others I've read before and is such a different world.

It has been really interesting so far. It was at first kind of confusing when they were talking about the scouts spreading fire to contain the flowers. I was feaking out when Tally was taking a bath in the river. When the helicopter came it made me think that the specials were coming for Tally.

It was also pretty suprising that the run away uglies trade things in order to get nescecities. I would have thought that there was an organized outside of their world.

Natalie G. 6th said...

The book is getting more and more intense. What is going on between Shay and David? Will Tally call Shay out? So many questions...I cannot even guess what will happen next.

I wish the book would never end. It's funny how they dont know what Magazines are or fire.

in part 2 of uglies Tally amazes me. she agrees to help"bad people". and thats just redictulous. she agrees to look for Shay in the ruins or where ever she is. This is achived by fallowing a note that she gives Tally.

The book is really intresting.
Tally met others people in the smoke like croy ,David, and others. She also met the boss. Its really interesting how David's parents were the one that choose to live in Smoke. I also thought it was interesting how David never got to choose whether he wanted to be pretty or an ugly.

I wonder what he choose being pretty or being an ugly?

I think that Croy is a really smart person. Croy was asking Tally questions about her being in Smoke and why she came here. Croy is pretty smart to try to figure out how many spagbolls she should have that time. I don't think croy believe Tally just coming her and i think he thinks that she a spy. Shay know and thinks that David likes Tally since David gave Tally gloves and Shay told Tally that she likes David. I like how there is romance between Tally and David however Shay likes david.

Im the part where Tally is about to meet David parents III'MMMMMMMMMMM...... soo exciteed =]

Chelza J. (Period 3) said...

I just started really the part with Tally meeting Davids parents.

Now Tally met David's parents.
David told Tally that there should be a secret she should know but he wont tell her and wants his parents to tell her.
I think its really interesting how David's parents used to be pretties but not anymore. The made themselves ugly again by doing something like melting it or something.?? I also thinks its really interesting how David parents aren't living in smoke. David's parents are doctors.

Finally David's parents told Tally what the secret really is. David's parents told Tally that when prettiest have the surgery its will damage something in their brains except for the people that already achieved something like the doctors ect. Tally was really shocked to know this. She asked is there was a cure but they havent found it yet.

They went home and I think Tally likes David. So Tally decide to throw away the necklace Dr. Cable gave to her .

I agree with Charis G. on how Croy is very observant with the SpagBol. He seems really clever, but I think he knows something is going on with Tally and the pendant she had.

I think Tally is growing feelings for David, but is scared to tell Shay anything. I wonder what Shay would say or think.

I'm almost finished with the book, and am going to start reading this series. I cannot wait to finish it, and start another. These books are so different than others. It's a whole new world, and the author really thought out of the box when writing this book.

Tally wasn't use to hard work and Shay reashores her that she'll get use to it with in 2-3 days. Tally says that she used to lye awake at night thinking about what happened or could have happened that day, but now when her head hits the pillow she falls asleep right away. This book so far is GREAT! It is a good page turner, and I honestly cannot put this book down. What I think is so fasinating is how in this book, there is a world that labels people as "Uglies", or "Pretties". I think that this is too judgemental, and unfair.

If I was a character in this book, I would run away such as Shay did. I feel like you would have more freedom, and be able to do what you want without being a Pretty. I wouldnt tell anybody, such as how Shay told Tally where she would be. I wouldnt get involved with anyone else, and go off on my own. I'm my own person, and absolutely hate being like everyone else. I'm different, and I like it that way.

The end of Uglies was unbelievable!!! I could not believe that Shay became a Pretty and that her whole personality changed because of the surgery.

Another part that surprised me was on how David's father died. I couldnt even guess what was going to happen throughout the book, it was very unpredictable. I like these kind of books, because it doesnt get boring after awhile.

In the end Tally did become a Pretty, and was happy about it. I wonder what will happen to David though. Before Tally said she was ready to become a Pretty, I was thinking the guard would have said no, because she had gotten into too much trouble in the past, and it seemed as if Dr. Cable was just tricking her majority of the time.

While reading this book, I noticed that the more Tally hangs out with Shay, Tally starts having second thoughts about getting the operation or not. When she meets David and his parents she is shocked about what they tell her about what the operation does to people, and when she finds out she throws away the necklace that Dr.Cable gave to her.

I can’t believe it Tally and David have the perfect plan. Everything planed out from the beginning to the execution. They sneak in though the elevator shaft falling down till landing on the elevator. The plan was Tally first then David, Tally whistling for when it was time for David comes down. They go to the 2nd floor above the bottom floor, looking everywhere for the Smokies. They were nowhere to be found on that floor so the go down. There they find Shay and she’s a PRETTIE! I can’t believe it she had become one of them. It was one of the biggest shocks.
Then when David and Tally was getting everyone out of the individual cells they were in the find out something horrifying from Maggie (David’s mom). David’s dad was dead. That was the biggest shocker. Plus Maggie was only focusing on getting away, instead of morning over the loss of her husband. Maggie is very strong mentally and physicall

5)Well the book was pretty good in my opinion. The story was kind of predictable but the end was very suprising.

I didnt like it when Tally was finally comfortable then all of a sudden the Special circumstances had to come in and ruin Smoke. Then it was sad when Boss was gone and that David's father had died.

Shay I think was he god-teacher in the book because of what she thought Tally thorught the book.

I finish the book. I thought the book was really interesting. This book is one of my favorite book. I really like how theirs friendship, romance, and adventure involved.

I really feel bad for David because he lost his father Az. Shay became pretty and i really cant believe that Shay likes being a pretty and wants the others to be pretty too. Shay is also now okay with Tally and David being together and i was kind of shocked because Shay always liked David and wanted Tally to get away from him. Now that David and Tally rescued the others they go out of the city. Davids mother wants to find a cure for the pretties that is sick. They want to do an experiment to Shay but Shay refuses. So now its up to Tally!!!

AHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im really curios what will happned to Tally and David.
Will they ever meet again?
Will David's mom find a cure?....

Elizabeth Q. said...

it really surprised me that David likes Tally and not Shay, and at the end Tally also chooses to be the same as she was and in my opinion I think she made a good decision because Shay teaches how every person is pretty in their own way and that you shouldn't change just because other people think that you're not perfect. So, in my opinion this book was pretty good because it had adventure, excitement, and was very suspenseful.
