I like this book because at first i thought it was going to go right to the fighting and brutality (which is not why i chose the book) but surprisingly the book started with his story which begins as soon as his uncle took him. He's never been spoiled so he likes the feeling of getting whatever he wanted. But through the beginning it unravels parts of him that even confuse him like when he was killing the tad poles or when he had to cut the fish. It shows he has a ruthless side and a very sensitive one. I really hope this book is as good as i think it is.

the brutality of the book is great it doesn't leave much out it has a lot of detail. its compelling with fighting and drama. this is why i like the book so far.

So far I like this book. I agree with the others and how the book tells a lot of detail. The detail creates more intensity and suspense. The storyline is kind of choppy and can be repetitive at times. Even though storyline is boring the detains make the book good.

Wyatt Reaves IS A VERY SENSATIVE BOY WHO LIVES WITH HIS MOTHER AND UNCLE . HIS ROOM IS LOCATED IN THE ATTIC OF THE HOUSE BECAUSE HIS MOM HAS ALOT OF CATS. oNE DAY HIS UNCLE TAKE HIM FISHING AND HE HAS TO CUT OF THE FISHES HEAD BUT HE COULD NOT DO IT BECAUSE OF THE OTHER SIDE OF HIMSELF THAT WAS THE KIND ONE AND THE MEAN ONE.

Nolan Begley said...

Even though I have just stated reading this book I think it is really great. I love the good imagery. I can see the scene when Fever is chopping the heads off of the fish's. This book also has lots of detail. I think this book will be one that I can not put down because it is that good.

In some ways this book has some good comedy. like when Fever is trying to push all of the mothers cats away. Another part that is pretty funny to me is when Wyatt goes outside in his underwear and steps on the garden knome.

Why do you think fever has only returned home 2 times?

In response to aj73 response I agree that Fever is the only one that Wyatt enjoys. But I think that later on in the story Wyatt will find someone that he cares about and enjoys being with like his uncle Fever. I also think that Wyatt will have another situation like he did when he was having trouble cutting the head off of the fish. He will either have to get in a fight or back out of a fight; for example. Another prediction that I have is that through all the fighting Fever will some how get into trouble. For example; He will use Wyatt to hustle and then he will get caught and bad things will happen to him.

Now that im more in the book i see where Wyatt really comes from. He's had some troubled things to go through when he was young and one that piqued my interest was when he tried to save the bird and how he had to kill it to put it out of its misery. It was weird because when he was in his first fight against an older guy, all he could think of was that poor bird. So it definitely shows that Wyatt has a really sensitive side. It seems that Wyatt is starting to like spade more and more as now he's trying to do everything he does. Like he's his idol. Right now many fights have occurred and All im thinking of is when does he realize that he's fighting for nothing.

carlos trujillo said...

This book is good so far. soo far we know that wyatts uncle spade has come to pick him up and then they go to his moms house. spade and wyatt go fishing and wyatt is happy that he didnt catch the smallest fish. then he didnt want to cut the head off of the smaller fish until he saw spade getting mad.

As I have continued reading I have realised that this book is kind of sad. it is sad because Wyatt doesn't really have a home. How he has to keep moving and living with strangers, that are to him.

I have two questions to ask.

How do you think Wyatt feels about moving constantly?

What do you thing Wyatt has that other people in the story don't have that keeps his Uncle likeing him or respecting him?

this book just gets more interesting. now wat is talking about spades ladyfriends and mentions edie and says that he made his only real friend when they stayed with her. clark and wyatt are throwin frogs and they kill them. later wyatt says that clark was more like a father just by the way he says things. wyatt and spade leave nana's house in the middle of the night. wyatt has a bad dream at lynnesha's house and then later on he signs up for a contest. he wins the contest and spade gives the thought of wyatt being a fighter becausde of his fist.

carlos trujillo said...

So now wyatt is training and getting coached by gauge coleman. gauge used to be a real fighter. gauge is giving wyatt all these tips on how he needs to fight. wyatt wins his 1st match but breaks his wrist. they cut the cast off and wyatt keeps winning. spade throws a bday party for wyatt and wyatt enjoyed it. wyatt tels lynnesha about a time when he was 8. wyatt told spade he wanted to go to school so he takes him to sign up but theres only 5 weeks left so they dont sign up. then wyatt talks about all the victories hes getting from fights and meets curt and curt wants to fight now not later but wyatt keeps saying no until eventally they did fight. this book is great so far the action has begun and the details are good

this book is amazing and just gets more interesting and better. nana has died and wyatt sees his father but they dont say anything. then he starts talking about clark and he waited at the usual spot he normally would when clark would get out of school then wyatt attacked him blaming everything on him. after that wyat lost his fight to ramon caida and as he was getting fixed by the dr and spade he said no more fighting so spade said okay. then one night at the motel wyatt was cooling off by the pol and this guy ran out of the motel and spade yelled get him so wyatt did then he held him down and spade was like he took it and he was talking about his little bag of pot. then wyatt let him go after it was settled and said i want to go back with fever... then spade said fine get out i dont need you.

This book is really amazing. I think it is very interesting. I think it is pretty cool how he travels with his uncle every where and that he gets anything he wants or asks for. I'm curious about why he left his parents and why he is with his uncle. I think that its pretty weird how his uncle leaves him by his self and comes back the next day. But so far i cant stop reading this book.

This book seems to get better and better each time I read it. I thought it was really cool how he started to train with Gauge. That was pretty brutal how he broke his opponents nose and how he used the crowds judgment as a weapon, because the crowd at the fight thought he was a weak kid but he proved them wrong and knocked out his opponent.

I like how that Wyatt and his uncle travels and stays with his uncles houses. I like how the author first gave the idea to his uncle about Wyatt fighting at a pig wrestling contest. This started the hustling and fighting his uncle started

Nolan Begley said...

As I have continued reading, this book is getting more awesome. I can really see the parts in my head when he is training with his coach. I also could see the part when he is fighting in his first fight. I think it was a great idea for the author to have Wyatt win his first fight. Since Wyatt had been going through a lot of pain and trouble it was nice that he became victorious in his first fight. I am really excited that the action has begun to kick in. I can't wait to continue reading and finding out more about Wyatt fighting.

now wyatt is trying to figure out who he is. he wakes up spade and says your taking me home and they drive all day not saying one word. wyat talks about why spade came to take him with him and that is because wyatt burnt down his other house. his mom answered the door when he knocked and they were talking then fever comes in and starts talking. fever told wyatt that they should open a parking lot together to make money. they did open one. as they were working fever kept yelling at wyatt and wyatt yelled back. thats when fever came walking over to him and then wyatt just punched him in the face then walked away and caught a bus ride... this bbok was amazing and just kept me entertained and wanting me to read more and more.

Reading the book more I realized that Wyatt has a very lonely life. At his fifteenths birthday party he said that the people there were his best or close friends. He is also showered with presents from his uncle but is repeatedly saying in the book that he does not need them. I think this shows that all he wants is some company that his uncle provides for him.

Earl C said...

Reading more and more the author gives a very vivid picture about the training and the fight scenes in the book. I like how the book always starts out with the main character having trouble in life and solves his problems through something, this time fighting. Wyatt has nothing to look up to in life and starts traveling with his uncle to fight people for money. The book is very brutal in some parts but shows Wyatt as a humble and non-violent person. The irony keeps wanting me to read the book.

This book has started to get intense. It was kind of surprising that the grandmother died and it was very weird how at the funeral his father didn't look or talk to him. But the only thing he said was that you don't even look like your my kid anymore. That was really sad how he stood while his father just passed and just pushed him away.

This book really changed here and had a different mood to it. Uncle Spades lady friend came home to Spade and Wyatt drinking on her front lawn. Then she started to argue and cuss at Uncle Spade. But it was pretty intense and gruesome. She got hurt really badly and she didn't even looked at him. Then Wyatt yelled and held Uncle Spade away from her and told him to stop and never hit anyone like that again.

This book did not disappoint me at at all. It was a great book. I surprised me that Wyatt went back to his parents and then got into a fight and left again but i felt like his father was taking advantage of him and his money that he won from his fights. And also wanted to know a little more about where and what happened to Uncle Spade when he dropped off Wyatt and took off.

nolan Begley said...

I have just finished this amazing book. I have to admit that this is one of the greatest books I have ever read. I loved everything like the fights and the relationships Wyatt builds with other peole like Lynnesha. It was kind of funny how after his first fight every opponent thought they could beat Wyatt but he proved them wrong by kick their butts. I will definetly pass this book on to other people because of it's great imagery and its intense action.

I have only one more question to ask.

Do you think someone in else in Wyatts family would have found him and used him for fights?

Right about now this book is really starting to show Wyatts life unfold. He's being trained by a professional fighter and he seems at the shape of his life. But now he has started to feel like Lynesha, Spades "lady-friend", is a real mother because of the way she treats Wyatt. She treats him like hes a boy instead of a ruthless fighter. And Wyatt really enjoys it. Thats why when Spade slapped Lynesha Wyatt stopped him and starts to talk back to spade since he feels that it was unfair. And now it seems like he's been challenged by an older more experienced fighter. Can he win this one? or does he fall for the first time?

Wyatt is traveling in the car when spade says that he's been challenged by a strong actually experienced fighter. Wyatt simply shrugs it off saying that he'll knock him down in just four or three hits. Right now Wyatt has won so many fights that he's ut it in his mind that he can never lose. But even though he IS strong he has to remember that he's only 14. And the fighter was about 30 and he's expeirenced. Wyatt dosen't worry, that is until they meet in the arena. Wyatt blocks most of the attacks but is greatly hurt from each of the blows. When his original plan was to wait until his opponent got tired it just turned into: PUNCH THE GUY WITH FISTS OF FURY. But before Wyatt can land a hit his opponent gets him right in the stomach. Wyatt tumbles and falls and blacks out. He wakes up in the hospital with spade near. Though his lips are swelled Wyatt tells his uncle that he doesn't want to fight anymore. Spade understands and Wyatt drifts off. I think that he's finally seen what its like to lose when winning had seemed so easy.

I really like the direction this book turned. From Wyatt being all happy that he can get whatever he wants to him being responsible and ordering his uncle and standing in the rain trying to get people to park in a parking lot. But since it sounds so confusing to you, i'll just tell you what happened. Wyatt stayed with his uncle in a hotel for a few days since the area they were in didn't have any of Spades lady friends. Wyatt was out in the pool when his uncle screamed at him to chase the guy that ran out. Wyatt did and it turned out Spade had resorted to drugs and selling them. At night Wyatt asks Spade why he's still keeping him here. His uncle simply tells him that he dosent need to be here so he tells him that he can leave whenever. So in the morning Wyatt takes all the fighting money and forces his uncle to drive him to his dad and moms house. When Wyatt is there he stays watches t.v, then gets a little crazy and burns the entire place down. Later Wyatt and his dad, Fever, decide to buy a parking lot near a big hit place. then hes in the rain yelling for people to park so he gets mad and punches his dad. Wyatt then swears at the sky and he starts laughing. He then starts walking away- to begin a life without anyone-his uncle, his mom, his dad. he just keeps walking on and finally feeling happy. Even though i wonder what he's going to do with his life, i see that he has deeply matured.
I have really enjoyed this book.

And p.s.
sorry for writing so much
i got carried away.

Aight so now Wyatt has started to train with Gauge who was a fighter himself so this means wyatt can be as good or better then Gauge. But what also helps him is what had happened in his past. But something that weakens him is that he is a sensative person. And something that helps him is spade because he now looks up to him. Some fight have happened and he prove to be very good because in one of the fights he broke the guys nose.

So now u start to find out that wyatt is a very sad and lonely boy and can say that this is why he fights. He had a party and was given presents by his uncle but he believed he didnt need them because what he really wanted was some one to show actual effections toward him and not like his father that didnt even talk to him and acted like he was a stranger.

Now that i have kept reading this book i could say i have never finished reading a book but this book is so good i know i will. The aouthor explain and shows how wyatt works really hard inhis training and how he is pushed to keep going. This is part of the the reason why he won his first fight. i can relate to this because i tryed to do MMA but failed and quit because the training was really intense like the author says it.

So like i said this is the first book that i actually finished reading completly because it was so good and i would recomened it to everyone. The ending was kind of sad but good at the same time even though he ended in the hospital and got in a fight with his dad this was the day you can say he grew up and was his end of child hood. But not only does he grow but many relations with people he has also grow. This was the best book i have read and say you do this as a class novel next year.

what bothered me is why the uncle spade didn't tell wyatt why he took him from ma and fever. even though it was probably for his own good because ma and fever didn't really take care of wyatt good.

half way done now with the book and throughout the book they travel a lot, and the book is not very specific on where they are or go. the book talks about a lot of uncle spades ladyfriends, but they only name Edie, and Lynnesha, but the book is very interesting, and a good read.

75% done with the book now and it wyatt goes through a lot of changes with the people around him, and his emotions, and even his physical features have changed, he went from being a scrawny little kid who grew up miserable and is now tall big and strong, surrounded by loving people. I also like all the violence and intensity of the book. this book is great.

just finished one of the greatest books I've ever read, and the ending was different from what i thought it would be like i thought he would maybe go back to Lynnesha and try to live with her, but instead he leaves his uncle and returns to fever and ma, where is miserable again, but fever has this plan on taking the fight money wyatt earned and they would build a parking lot together with ma's help. so once the parking lot was built they open it for business the night when this collesium hosts a game. they were both working the lot, and fever was hollering at wyatt so finally wyatt had enough of fever and punched him in the face and walked off.
