So far i have read 40 pages of this book. The author decided to explain the setting and living styles for Lakshmi and her mom "Ama." Overall , I think when i get further along, this book will be great to read , because i want to know how Lakshmi's family overcome there problems with money, food, and essential needs.
A part I liked in the book was how the author briefly explained the jobs that needed to be done by each family member, and what Lakshmi is doing in school. I wonder how hard it must be for here sister to work so much and then provide for her whole family. I feel pity for Lakshmi, since her father died, now she has to live with her step-father who does not work at all.
In a way, i can relate to this book because my relatives in Pakistan were having the same exact problems. I went to Pakistan to visit and for my cousins it was just over crowded and my uncle (there dad) had passed away and money was really needed at the time. I saw how hard they worked for what they were receiving in such a broke down place. In the end it worked out all well, I just wonder if that will be the same fate for Lakshmi. I can't imagine the torture Lakshmi's mother has to do on a regular bases to prepare Lakshmi for school, clean the house, do some gardening, and feed the lazy good for nothing step-father.
So far I am enjoying this book because it describes every thing so clearly i can really picture and feel what it would be like to live and work there. One thing i didn't like about the book is how it's kind of dragging me along, but im sure things will heat up as i read further in this book. A part I really liked was how in the very beginning of the book Lakshmi had bonded with her goat and was having a fun time pretending to be it's mother and teaching the goat her ways. It shows to me that even with all this that she has to do, Lakshmi keeps her head high and looks at the other side, the green side, in a positive way of life. Overall i would give this a 4 out of 5 stars so far, but i wish to continue and see what lies ahead.

QUESTIONS!
1.) Why doesn't Ama let Lakshmi work for the rich like her sister?

2.) What happens when Lakshmi's mother can't work anymore because of age or pain?

3.) When will the step-father get work, and when will he heal from his injury.

Im on page 140 and this slow book has heated up to a much more intense pace, in which i take much interest in. I didn't like the step-father in the first place, but the crap he pulled on what he did to Lakshmi was just too low to imagine. That surprised me and really left me hanging to see what would happen next. I thought she was going to work as a maid but i thought wrong. Instead she was being sold from place to place like a piece of meat.
A part that I liked was how she was such a fighter and always looked to the brighter side of life despite on how bad things looked or what was going on around her. I had really felt a sense of hope on how she looks at things. After she got to the "happiness house" that all changed.
A part i didnt like in the book was well on how confusing the author made the places that she was traveling from, i didnt really understand the whole concept. In a way, I can relate to this book because i know how it feels from being trapped and having hope of getting out and trying to move on.
I honestly have no clue what i would do if i was stuck in Lakshmi's position but i have to keep reading to find out. This book also reminded me of Iqbal.

QUESTIONS!
1.) If Lakshmi is here then Gita must be in a place like this

2.) How do people not notice the window in which where Lakshmi was staying?

3.)Why does Lakshmi have to pay 20,000 if the debt is 10,000?
