What makes me wonder is to why Harriet is so afraid of being free. Throughout the beginning of the book, I have observed her running away from freedom and not accepting herself as a slave. But then what is she? She is definitely not a free woman and she seems to admire the life that she is living. I think the main reason is that she is so attached to the life she is living and sees no harm in continue living this way, also freedom seems to be scaring her. She also seems to have a strange connection with Thomas Jefferson in which she truly believes that she loves him. Overall, the story is fiction but sounds incredibly realistic considering it is based on non fictious ideas.
